Firm History

We are proud of the history of the firm! The firm was set up in 1897 first in Calicut and then shifted to Mumbai (then Bombay) in 1900. This makes us the oldest Indian Chartered Accountancy firm of the country.

Further, our founder has been designated by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) as the "Father of Accountancy". Being the oldest Indian CA Firm, many of the stalwarts who made the profession proud were associated with or products of the firm.

To name a few of such illustrious stalwarts, Mr Sorab S Engineer, Mr M R Tambe (also an Actuary), his sons Bharat Aiyar and Arjun Aiyar, have been Partners of the firm. Prior to and after Independence, the erstwhile rulers of many large and small Indian Princely states, Large and reputed Merchants of Bombay, the Walchand Group, the Khatau Group, the Morarkas, the Scindia steam shipping, the Premachand Roychand group, banks like the Dena Bank, Bank of Baroda, Maharashtra Bank, the Indian Bank Association and the Life Insurance Corporation were serviced for many years by the firm.

With the passage of time the Firm remained a name recognised and respected in the profession for its professionalism, expertise and service to its clients. The firm was ranked as one of the large, reputed, audit firms and added clients like Associated Cement Companies, Alembic Group and others.

Over the period, the Governments of the day chose the firm as Auditors for CAG audits like the RBI, HAL and others, reposing continued respect and appreciation of service by the firm and its Partners to the profession and industry.

The Firm has chosen from inception under the able guidance of its founder to be a medium to further the cause of commercial education, since it is considered as a necessity for all mercantile and industrial pursuits.

It has been a tradition with the Firm that many articled clerks and juniors rise to become Partners of the Firm, thereby living up to the lofty ideals and dreams of its Founder Mr K S Aiyar. The partners of the firm today rededicate themselves to perpetuate the vision of the founder — to perfect service to the commercial community with spotless integrity, high efficiency and a deep sense of commitment.
